Sometimes some things in life just don’t make much sense. Like this sign I parked next to when I was up in Petaluma, CA coaching the weightlifting team this past Saturday. If you understand this one, please post insight to comments.
I find weightlifting can fall under that category at times. There are so many variables that can control your output on the platform, it’s hard to say what will end up happening on what day. I’ve set PRs on days where I was dead beat tired from a long day/week of work and completely bombed on days that I felt I had super human strength. Why it worked out the way it did? I can’t be entirely sure.
Maybe when I set my PRs, I knew I was tired and had to really dial it up during practice to make my lifts. Maybe when I bombed, I took it for granted that I felt strong and didn’t focus quite enough. Whatever the answers are, the idea is to always go into practice giving it your best but be okay with whatever the outcome is for the day because you just never know how the cards may fall. Like my main man Bruce Lee would say, “Take things as they are. Punch when you have to punch. Kick when you have to kick.”
