When it comes to the competition style lifts, there are a few options in which an athlete can direct the bar from shoulders to overhead: power/push jerking, squat jerking and split jerking.

The strengths and abilities of the athlete will dictate which method of delivery will work best. Due to the accessibility of the athlete being able to achieve good depth while still maintaining proper support and it’s slightly larger margin for error, the split jerk ends up being the most widely adopted option for the second half of the movement.
