Heading down to The Sports Palace is like walking into a time capsule. Jim (@jimschmitz) keeps the walls decorated with weightlifting history. I don’t know why I still get surprised, but every now and then Jim will bust out with some cool artifact that’s he’s kept in storage like this cool barbell set.

According to Jim:

“I bought it used from a gym in Berkeley that went out of business in 1974. A guy from Sacramento, Chester Teagarden, began importing them from Russia in the 60’s, so I figure mine is about 45 to 50 years old. We thought they were really cool until Eleiko came along around 1966 or so.”
