One of the more difficult things to teach a beginner is the feeling of keeping the arms relaxed enough to get the whipping effect from the body. Often times we see tension in the arms as a means to control and guide the barbell instead of using lat tension to perform this task.

Lifting straps are a piece of equipment that can help the lifter develop the proper awareness of keeping the arms relaxed but not loose. Traditionally, this piece of equipment is used to help spare the hands of weightlifters undergoing tons of volume in their training. For the athlete not spending 6-9 sessions per week purely weightlifting, this can be a valuable tool to develop the proper awareness and motor control needed to transfer energy and move around the barbell more fluidly.
