The journey towards the future is always clearer when you know where you’ve been in the past.

Not in the habit of logging your workouts? As a weightlifter, it’s pretty much a must or you’re flying blind.

Here is my list of must haves when logging workouts:

1. Date, time and gym location.

2. The workout.

3. The warm-ups including the jumps you made leading up to the working sets.

4. How you felt that day. I like using a scale of 1-5 where 1 represents low energy and 5 means you were feeling large and in charge.

5. Hours of sleep you had the night before.

Example:

7/5/13 3PM FuBarbell

Snatch - 73lbs/3 x3, 93lbs/2, 103lbs/2, 113lbs/1, 123lbs/1, 133lbs/1, 138lbs/1, 143lbs/1, 148lbs/1, 153lbs/1, 158lbs/1 (missed twice)

4/5; 7 hours of sleep. Felt strong today. The misses felt forward in the catch.
