1. Training with athletes that are above your skill level makes you better.

2. Working with a team lends accountability and motivates you to perform your best.

3. The bonds and friendships that are forged through sweat and effort are everlasting.

If you couldn’t tell (check out where I get stuck), getting the hips open as you recover out of the hole stabilizes the torso allowing energy to continue driving up through to the bar.

In coaching, we want to try and provide cues that will address multiple issues at one time. Being that there are 1,001+ things to remember, simplification of technical processes will free up mental and physical capacities resulting in improved performance.

The flip side is that cues are just that — cues — and should address technicalities from a foundation of understanding bridged between the coach and athlete. I would yell “magic unicorns” if it got my athletes moving the way I want to see them move.

A good coach is that voice of reason; that vote of confidence during the heat of competition.

A good coach doesn’t need to push his/her athletes to train harder, but knows when to pull them back from training too hard and becoming injured.

A good coach is a leader inspiring his/her athletes to believe in larger message.

Does it warrant me even saying? Every athlete needs a coach :)

1. Set-Up: Tight back, loose arms, and get ready to drive the legs through the platform.

2. Focal point: Eyes to the horizon (or above).

3. Chest Up: Throughout the lift maintains position of the body.

4. Finish the hips and shoulders: Be aggressive!

5. Lockout: Light or heavy, put that bar where you want it to go.
