Many beginners will often set-up at a different place from rep to rep. Being consistent in where you start will lead to consistency when you pull. Starting the set-up at a different place is like taking a different route every time you drive to work. It might make for an interesting drive, but the path will never become automatic thus taking up valuable bandwidth that could be applied elsewhere.

Keeping the elbows over the barbell for as long as possible will close the gap between the barbell and the lifter.

This will not only help with preventing swinging the weight out front but also facilitate a smoother relocation underneath the bar.

This quote really resonates with me when it comes to simplifying concepts. I often find athletes can get too lost in the technical details too early in the game.

For a novice weightlifter, my goal is to establish a fundamental understanding for the rhythm of weightlifting and leave the more colorful details of technical nuances for a little later down the line.

Do you perform your best in practice or does the fire come out during competition?

Being in the heightened state of competition gives you an extra boost of adrenaline. The way you harness that energy will determine if you’re the type to make PRs at meets or if the PRs only come when you’re in the comfort of your own platform.
