You play hard, but do you recover equally as hard? I find that as the years wear on, it’s not my ability or my motivation to push through my workouts that make the difference; but rather, how I stay on top of my recovery that will determine my performance. Fall behind on mobilizing the quads? You bet my knees will be knocking on my door within a few weeks and squatting with even an empty bar will take mental preparation and effort.

Having body awareness and body control is fundamental before you can start to move and manipulate with an object. Although gymnastics seems like our fundamental “go to” for such practices, activities such as parkour offers certain freedoms in rhythm that it’s more formal counterpart cannot. Want to see improvement in your Olympic lifts? Spend some time honing in on your bio-machine and watch those kilos rise.

Mobility like a boss. Ilya (@ilyailyin4ever) spends 30min each day prior to training working on flexibility. There are also photos floating around somewhere of Klokov in the splits during this seminar. I wasn’t quite quick enough with the trigger to capture a photo of him performing this act. He’d basically be talking and suddenly just drop into the splits cold without warm-up as a demonstration of his flexibility. Very impressive indeed.

Feats of strength with Dmitry Klokov (@klokovd) at CrossFit Oahu (@crossfitoahufamily). Given the amount of travel these guys have been doing around the world, they are still very regimented about their training. On this day in particular, because Polovnikov had already been in the states for several weeks, he was adjusted enough to push for a max on his snatch. Whereas Klokov stayed light to allow his body to adjust to the jet lag having just arrived a few days before.
