While tradition and conventionalism favor the high bar back squat in Olympic-style weightlifting. The low bar back squat lends value in developing systemic strength.

Good overhead receiving position has the athlete supporting the barbell down the middle of the body using the joint structures to create a sturdy rack. Pro tip: wrapping athletic tape. A little wrap of tape can go a long way in lending stability, confidence and comfort to the joint.

1. Grab a roll of athletic tape. They usually come in 1.5" width; and these days, in a plethora of colors to match your mood. I find Mueller and Johnson&Johnson to be my favorite brands cause they don’t turn into bracelets as soon as you start to sweat.

2. Unravel a 8"-12" strip.

3. To prep, use @tonyblauer Spear™ hands. This allows room for your wrist to expand and not cut off circulation.

Weightlifters will use assistance lifts to try and strengthen their position under movement. Deadlifts, pulls and high pulls are commonly inserted after the classic lifts are performed to get some extra work in before moving on to parts of the workout.

The benefit, however, really only comes if you perform the various pulls the same way as you would snatch or clean.

To test if you do, try performing a:

deadlift + pull + high-pull + snatch/clean.
